A simple suggestion:
“Comic books as modern mythology”
The idea would be that ancient cultures had their own mythological stories about Zeus, Hercules, Mars, Quetzalcoatl, Krishna, etc. and about the supernatural as an explanation of the world around them. Comic books, in some ways, are an extension or a reflection of how modern readers/writers view the world around us.
Consider when certain heroes were created (during the Cold War, during a time when a certain segment of society was oppressed, what were our fears and hopes during those times in history) and how the characters challenged those ideas.
Consider Superman - a man of ’steel’ who was indestructible? From an alien world?
Spiderman - a man whose genetic makeup was altered by an irradiated spider?
The Hulk - man affected by radiation?
Wonder Woman - a strong female character from an unknown outside world that challenges the notions of ‘men’ as ‘dominant’ and women as ‘necessarily docile’?
